Want to celebrate Halloween by learning fun vocabulary, dressing up (if you want), and having conversations in Spanish?

Come color, chill, and chat in Spanish!

First, students will practice saying the vocabulary words with a PPT presentation, practice correct pronunciation, and use the new words in sentences. Then, we'll begin the matching and coloring page together in class. Throughout the lesson, students will practice asking and answering questions in Spanish in complete sentences. If learners don't finish in class, they will be able to finish their coloring page at home and post it to the discussion board.

PRIOR SPANISH KNOWLEDGE: This class is appropriate for beginners of any level (none or some knowledge) who are enthusiastic to practice Spanish! 

The content students will learn in Spanish include: halloween, skeleton, spider, coffin, candy, costume, "trick-or-treat", along with several questions and full sentence answers in Spanish. 

Learners will practice asking and answering questions in Spanish related to the above sentences to get conversational practice. Some extension may be included in the lesson depending on the number of students, overall student comprehension, etc. 

Students will also get access to a Spanish game (Boom cards) after class to be able to continue practicing at home.

This class is not a full immersion Spanish class and there will be some English used in class as needed. I aim to provide an ample amount of Spanish input and output while still helping students of various levels follow along.

NOTE: Depending on the number of students, any background sounds, etc. I will either mute or keep students unmuted throughout the class.

Hello! My name is Ivana and I have 9 years of experience teaching in a variety of settings, including in the classroom, online, and private tutoring. I've taught over 4,500 online lessons and enjoy working with learners of all ages to help them feel comfortable and confident in learning virtually! 

I enjoy creating creative lessons related to Spanish language and culture and drawing from my Colombian heritage. I also specialize in working with ESL students to strengthen their vocabulary, fluency, and confidence in speaking English.

For younger students, I use singing, art, and movement to provide engaging instruction on a variety of subjects, including Spanish and ESL. With older learners, my goals are to encourage them to think carefully, be curious, and find their unique voice and talents in a variety of subjects.

I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and my MSEd in Education from Johns Hopkins University. Starting in 2013, I taught Middle School Spanish for 2 years through Teach For America and then worked as a Home and Hospital teacher for all school subjects for several years. During the summer of 2016, I was a TA for 2 summer sessions of Cognitive Psychology with the Johns Hopkins Center For Talented Youth (CTY). Finally, I've taught online ESL lessons with 2 online ESL companies to students ranging from 3-16 years old for the past 4 years and formally mentor prospective online teachers on best practices for online ESL instruction.
