Hi, thanks for checking out my class! You don't need any prior ASL experience, I will teach you everything you need to know to learn how to sign various fun topics using ASL! This class is designed so that any student can join at any point without feeling behind or left out, regardless of skill level. In this engaging and interactive class, we will spend time going over the proper way to make hand shapes to represent various topic related words using American Sign Language (sports, animals, feelings, transportation, food, etc) and the proper grammar associated with American Sign Language. My goal is to make learning ASL as fun and efficient as possible. I still remember being a student and wanting so badly to learn how to make sentences and actually be able to communicate, rather than simply identify objects. I bring that same passion to my teaching and offer my students tools from their very first week that will enable them to make basic sentences and engage in simple conversation. The specific layout of the class is: the first part of class will be spent learning how to properly sign the words. The second part of class will be practicing making sentences, and applying grammar concepts using the signs for the week. The best way to remember new vocabulary is to use it in practical ways and through repetition so at the end of each class I always encourage my students to teach a family member what they learned that week, or practice using the signs in their everyday life. Learners in this class will engage in activities to practice the new signs they just learned. Activities may include partner practice, flash card-style practice, repetition, guided practice, and visual cue practice. Class activities will either be together as a large class or working in partner groups in breakout rooms. If there is extra time at the end of class I will take requests over specific signs not covered in the class.
