Introduce your child to the exciting world of coding and programming in this 4-week class with Botley the robot! No robot is needed—just curiosity and a love for learning. Each week, children will build essential coding skills as they learn how to plan ahead, give precise instructions, and understand the importance of sequencing to guide Botley to his goal. By using the same robot throughout, their skills will grow and develop, reinforcing key STEM concepts. Every session includes a review of previous lessons and an introduction to new movement commands like Right, Left, Forward, Backward, and Transmit. Children will practice thinking ahead to give Botley clear instructions in a single transmission—just like real programmers! Your child will also have the chance to help explain challenges to peers, fostering collaboration and confidence. They'll tackle fun tasks such as collecting and transporting a ball, avoiding obstacles, and navigating a maze! The class is interactive, and children can join in as they feel comfortable. Learning will progress at the students’ pace, following this general outline: - Week 1: Collect an item - Week 2: Collect, return, and collect in order - Week 3: Soccer challenge - Week 4: Construction zone challenge Botley follows a programming style similar to Beebot, a robot used in many schools, making this a great way to reinforce classroom learning through coding. A minimum of 2 students is required to run this class. If you don’t see a session that fits your schedule, reach out—I’m happy to find a time that works for us both!
Learning Goals
By the end of these sessions, your child will be able to understand that an algorithm is a set of instructions, program a toy by inputting a sequence of commands/codes, and predict how different sequences lead to different outcomes.
