Students will be expected to practice between lessons. The amount a student practices guides how fast we move through material and how quickly a student learns. Some students have more time to devote to learning piano than others. The important thing is to find time at least twice a week to spend practicing and reviewing the material we went over together. Ideally, I'd love for my students to practice about 15 minutes a day for half hour lessons.Experiencia de clase

In this one-on-one class, we'll work on learning basic piano skills using the Alfred book series. One-on-one lessons allow for individualized attention and I can tailor lessons to each child's goals and learning style. We'll also incorporate bits of music history and music theory when we can to help create a well-rounded understanding of music and ultimately a more knowledgeable musician. Before we begin lessons, I'll contact the parent so that we can discuss what learning materials are appropriate. Don't worry if you don't have a book by the first lesson, we'll have plenty to work on even if it hasn't arrived. For piano lessons, students should have a keyboard that is at least 61 keys (touch sensitive so that it's louder when you press harder) or have access to a piano on a regular basis. Each class will begin with a short greeting. I love to ask my students about something good that happened that day. This helps students switch from whatever they were doing before to focusing on our time together. I also find that after a while, they start looking purposefully looking for something good about their day to tell me at their lesson. Then, we'll go through any assigned warmups and one to two songs from that lesson. We'll cover any new concepts related to those songs and look ahead to next week's lesson. I usually have more availability for lessons than I have listed, so if you're interested, just send your availability through Outschool and we'll see what fits! Cancellation policy: Unless there's an emergency, students must cancel a lesson with more than 24 hours notice for a refund. I have a makeup lesson listing on Outschool, so whenever cancellations happen, we can schedule a makeup time at a mutually convenient time.

For piano lessons, students should have regular access to a keyboard that is 61 keys (or more) or a piano on a regular basis. Students who have a 44-key keyboard can get started on lessons, but may want to upgrade before we finish the first book.

Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.

We will use either Alfred's Basic Piano Library Lesson Book 1a or Alfred's Basic Piano Library Lesson Book Complete Level 1 depending on the student's age and previous experience. After a few months of study, I may suggest students purchase Schaum's Fingerpower as a warmup book.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Ohio Certificado de Docencia en Música/Teatro/Artes
After teaching music to students in grades preschool through university level for the past 15 years, I've learned that I love teaching music to everyone, regardless of age. Whether we're creating artwork while listening to (and learning about!) famous classical works, working one-on-one during lessons on beginner piano, trumpet, baritone, euphonium, tuba, or music theory, or participating in an interactive book reading, you're welcome in my virtual classroom.
A bit about me:
I have a unique career built around being a music teacher, performer, conductor, children's author, and entrepreneur. I earned a double bachelor's degree in music education and euphonium performance from Capital University, a master's degree in euphonium performance from the Royal Northern College of Music, and a doctor of musical arts in euphonium performance from Rutgers University. I'm certified by the state of Ohio to teach music to grades preschool through 12th grade. I've taught general music to grades preschool through college, group music theory to elementary through college level, and private lessons on beginner piano, most brass instruments, and music theory to students of all ages. As a performer, clinician, and conductor, I frequently travel to work and perform with various ensembles around the United States. Lastly, I became a children's author and entrepreneur because when my first son was born and I didn't see any kids' books about brass band (the ensemble I play in most), I decided to write one! In addition to being a music teacher and performer, I'm now the author of a children's book called, "Amy's Brass Band" which is available worldwide through Amazon. I live with my husband and two young sons, one of whom I homeschooled for the 2020-2021 school year.
In the classroom, I work hard to create a supportive environment that can nurture a child's whole understanding of music. I hope to work with your child soon!
