Homework will be simple drawings, interacting in the classroom through commenting and posting, as well as creating short videos to present their homework or to speak on their homework. Homework should never take too long when assigned. The great thing about flex classes is students are able to complete the work when it is convenient for them!Evaluación

In this four week, 1 day a week flex class, we will be learning how to read a map, create a map, and understand directions through many fun activities in this class. Class will begin with students visiting the classroom to find an introduction post from Teacher Lauren. Students will be asked to list their name, their favorite animal and why they love that animal in the classroom to get to know one another. We will find there are times we are similar and there are times we are different, but that is what makes this world go round and forms a great connection between students to begin building a classroom community. Next, students will be directed to our first lesson. A video posted by the teacher to watch (between 10 to 15 min in length) will be shared each week. The video will mention the homework assignment for that week. Don't worry, all homework is simple enough students can complete this independently, but parents are encouraged to work with their children on their homework, help their kiddos with posting to the classroom page and with comments students will leave for each other to interact in the classroom to build classroom community. Each week students will receive a new video in the classroom from Teacher Lauren going over beginner map skills and each video will ask the students to create a homework assignment they post to the classroom except for the last week. The last week is saved for a super fun field trip activity that virtually brings fun into your home from a place I wish I could take all learners in person. Instead, we get have fun together from the safety of our homes and students get to use their map skills to map their trip out and to visit a place I know they will have a blast visiting online. Everyone loves the last day, but it's top secret! Students will be asked to interact in the classroom through completing homework assignments and posting an image or a video of their assignment to the classroom. Some assignments will be drawings, some will be games and some will be a simple video. This is meant to be a fun way of reviewing what we have learned and applying it to our world. Students may comment on their classmates posts to show support or to add to their classmates assignment. Please practice being kind with your comments! Week 1: We will learn about different types of maps along with the when, where, why, who, and what of maps. Students will post a comment in the classroom to get started with using the classroom for homework postings. Week 2: The magic of a key or a legend and neighborhood maps will be our topic of the week. Fun homework assignments will be including some drawings which will be posted by each student. Week 3: No compass? No Problem! After a 10-15 min educational video from the teacher, students will get to have fun together. This will be a class collaboration project week where we use a fun game to create videos for our homework assignments individually that will come together in a fun game format to practice our map skills. Week 4: Our final day is a super fun filled day with an activity that is a surprise to students because it is just that awesome! A video will be posted based on student's homework assignments they share (it will all make sense when you see the video that day and I'm not about to share the super surprise until the last day has arrived)! This video is made custom to each particular classroom of students so they won't want to miss it! I cannot wait to get started learning about maps with you! Teacher Lauren
Metas de aprendizaje

Hello!
I am Lauren Cannon and I love getting to teach students from all over the world!
Living very close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the small town of Sylva has brought me so much joy and inspires me to spend as much time as possible outdoors. I enjoy hiking, seeing wildlife like a black bear, skunks, raccoons, lizards, skinks, opossums, snakes of every kind (eek!), insects of all kinds, and a bobcat on a regular basis at my house! I sometimes see them, or remnants of their time at our house in our garden or my cats bring them to our front door. Ha! We also enjoy spending time as a family swimming and gem mining in the rivers and lakes, traveling, or fishing and going for family rides off road from time to time.
While teaching and tutoring on my own or with Outschool, I am always finding some way to make learning fun by creating fun printables, virtual field trips, games and finding some way to make learning an experience to remember for everyone.
As a former Elementary School Teacher, I have always strongly believed in everyone getting to have a voice. Just like with genealogy, I love getting to hear everyone's story! Each child deserves to have a voice and to be heard. I do my best to make sure each student is heard in the classroom within reason or without taking away from our classmates class time.
I truly enjoy getting to help students have fun, but I also love getting to see their faces light up when they feel good about their learning. Seeing students learn and make progress in their learning blesses me beyond measure.
If you feel you have not had a good experience during a class we had together, please reach out to me in messages and let me know. I am looking for ways to improve and your input helps me be my best for my students.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me.
I cannot wait to see you in the classroom!
