The best way to learn English is to speak, speak, and speak some more! In this class, your child will get MANY opportunities to speak. As an experienced ESL teacher, I will gently guide your learner during "Show and Tell" time, as well as during class discussions. This class is best suited for CEFR Levels A1 and A2. Full sentences are encouraged! For example, during a lesson on pets we may see a photo showing a dog, a cat, and a bird. Each child will practice saying, "It is a dog," etc. Later, each child will have the opportunity to choose their favorite animal and say, "I like the cat," etc. I will patiently and kindly assist each learner as needed. For example, sometimes a child is shy, afraid to speak, or does not know what to say. I will give the child a hint or tell the child exactly what to say, one word at a time. Some children need more help than others. That is perfectly fine! This group class is for beginners who are just learning English. Your child is ready for this class if he or she can do some or all of the following: - Can recognize and say numbers 1-5; - Is able to listen and repeat (echo) 1-2 words after the teacher; - Can say short sentences, such as: “My name is _____.” “I like ______.” Class Schedule - Here is what we will do in every class: - We sing a "Hello" song together, inserting each learner's name into the song - Everyone practices greetings and introductions - Everyone takes turns doing "Show and Tell" (bring a toy or other favorite item to talk about) - We will have a mini-lesson on the topic of the day (I will use engaging pictures, props, and/or a slideshow; learners will repeat new vocabulary and phrases after me) - We will have a class discussion about the topic. Every learner gets to speak! Learners will be guided to answer simple questions, such as “Which animal do you like?” - If time, we will do songs, games, or other fun activities to reinforce the vocabulary - We will sing a "Goodbye" song together This class is ongoing, and each lesson is independent of the other lessons. That is, the lessons do not build upon one another. Learners may join at any time, without being "behind." Here are the upcoming themes/topics: Themes/Topics: Week of July 10: Hello!
