Experiencia de clase

Join Profe Laura for fun Spanish practice playing Minecraft! This is a social Spanish class/club. Student will learn basic Spanish as well as vocabulary and words related to the game and how to try to speak in Spanish as we play.

✏️ Each week we will see different words and/or verbs. No prior knowledge of Spanish is necessary. Profe Laura will have the vocabulary or verb of the day, in Spanish AND English shared on the Zoom meeting. After class, the slides seen will be uploaded to the classroom for the learner to review and practice.

🗓️ Please see the schedule below for this class (Topics will be updated according to learner needs and progress.) For new groups, we can start on Month 1 or whatever month your learner would like to focus on!

✏️ The learning focus will be on basic Spanish words, phrases, questions and sentences, as well as vocabulary used in-game, and some simple verbs. I know that sometimes it can be intimidating to learn a new language, so we will be taking baby steps as we go. The idea is to have fun (not get stressed out!) as we learn! This is NOT a 100% Spanish class, so please do NOT expect a 100% immersion class. This class is IDEAL for learners that do NOT feel comfortable diving 100% into Spanish.

✏️ AND...I do offer private classes for this class, if your learner needs/wants more individualized attention at a beginner level. Private class rate will be higher than the group rate, as this will be even more individualized.

🏆 Just for fun! Each month Profe Laura will award one learner a printable bragging rights certificate, to the learner who has used the most Spanish during class time.

This class is designed for learners that do not know much Spanish but who are familiar with how to play Minecraft. Students are expected to try to express themselves in Spanish as much as possible. Students MUST having a working knowledge of the game or be willing to figure it out on their own as this course is focused on communication skills in Spanish and not how to play Minecraft in of itself.

Approximately 10-30% of communication will be in Spanish as Profe Laura works with learners (depending on their level of knowledge; on average expect 30% in Spanish once learners have a GOOD basic knowledge base). While the focus is communication, we will have explanations of verbs and basic concepts to help students learn as they play prior to our gameplay. Depending on learner progress we will review more or less frequently to ensure they remember what they have learned in class. Once students reach Intermediate Spanish, it is advisable to change over to the regular version of “Let’s Play Minecraft in Spanish.”

🎓Upon completion of the Year 1 topics for this course, learners will move on to the Year 2 topics as seen in the schedule above.

🗓️ Dates there will be NO classes scheduled. You will NOT be charged for weeks that do not have classes scheduled, so it is NOT necessary to un-enroll that weeks. In 2024, I will NOT be scheduling any classes for the following weeks:
* July 7th due to a prior Spanish interpreting commitment. 🪅 Classes will resume the week of July 14th.
* December 22nd and 29th due to Christmas. 🎄 Classes will resume the week of January 5th.

My no-show policy: if no learners are in the classroom after 10 minutes, the Zoom session will be ended (this is Outschool's general policy for no-shows).

👀 Upon signing up, PLEASE keep in mind and follow Outschool's policy for gamer tags and gaming classes:
 * Learners or parents should message gamer tags directly through a private message
 * Never allow learners to share their gamer tags in the classroom page (this means teacher or parents should delete comments from learners that do). Thank you!
* Per Outschool's policy, we must be on a private server at all times.
* Per Outschool's policy, learners are not allowed to continue on the server without the teacher; therefore the learners must leave the server at the end of class time.
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will learn and use Spanish in a fun, safe, social setting. Each week we will see a different concept or vocabulary, and learners are expected to try to use what they have learned so far in the class.

Orientación para padres
SUPER IMPORTANT: #1 In order to play together, we will need to be friends on Minecraft. If you do not wish to share this information, learners will not be able to play together. If you have any doubts or questions, please let me know as soon as possible. The idea behind this class is to provide a safe space to share and play together (at least once a month). Upon signing up, PLEASE keep in mind and follow Outschool's policy for gamer tags: * Learners or parents should message gamer tags directly through a private message * Never allow learners to share their gamer tags in the classroom page (this means teacher or parents should delete comments from learners that do). Thank you! #2 I will be playing on BEDROCK, which to date (July 2022) is NOT compatible with Java or Minecraft Education. Minecraft is recommended for around ages 8 and up. Please refer to Common Sense Media's review for more detailed information about this game: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/game-reviews/minecraft I will be using a Nintendo Switch to play during class time.
Lista de útiles escolares
You will need to have Minecraft and a device to play Minecraft on. I will provide slides and/or handouts on a weekly basis, which will be uploaded to the classroom after class. You may print these off or view them to practice and review.
