The Basics of Drawing will cover basic drawing technique through the use of drawing pencils and colored pencils.

Week 1: The study of line and shape with video and examples. Our game of Guess Who begins with 4 selected artists and accompanying artwork. Learners will be asked to create at least 2 drawings, one with a focus on shape and one with a focus on line, and to post in the classroom. 

Week 2: The study of shading and light direction with video and examples. Our game of Guess Who will continue. If the previous 4 pieces of artwork have been matched with their artists, 4 new artists will presented. Learners will be asked to create shading samples and then a drawing utilizing shading and to post in the classroom. 

Week 3: The study of the three types of symmetry through video and examples. Our game of Guess Who will continue. If the previous 4 pieces of artwork have been matched with their artists, 4 new artists will presented. Learners will be asked to create at least two drawings using 2 out of 3 examples of symmetry and to post in the classroom.

Week 4: The study of abstract art through video and examples. Our game of Guess Who will continue. If the previous 4 pieces of artwork have been matched with their artists, 4 new artists will presented. Learners will be directed on how to create an abstract drawing and will be asked to share their final creation in the classroom.

Week 5: The study of realism through video and examples. Our game of Guess Who will continue. If the previous 4 pieces of artwork have been matched with their artists, 4 new artists will presented. Learners will be asked to create at least one or two realistic drawings and to share them in the classroom. 

The class will be taught through prerecorded videos and posted examples. The given examples will help give learners a "springboard" to dive into their art.  Learner's should share their artwork in the classroom. They are welcome to continue to create and share as many drawings as they like. Questions, comments, and discussion of the topics are encouraged. Artists will view their drawing subjects from new perspectives and practice drawing skills that they will take with them into future creations. 

Along with sharing and discussing our artwork we will also play an ongoing game of "Guess Who". In the game of "Guess Who" I will provide several examples of famous artwork and give clues as to which artist created them. Students can then try to match the artist to the artwork from the clues given. 

No prior experience or knowledge is needed. Just an open mind and the desire to be creative and to learn. Everyone is an artist.
