In this class, students will learn how to make a paper basket in whatever color(s) they like. This class has a fun and relaxed atmosphere and students will leave with a little basket to put things in or just to sit in their room as a cute decoration. This project is technically origami and, therefore, does not require adhesive, but if your student wants to use tape, glue, or stapes to make their basket sturdier, they're welcome to, as long as they have their parent or guardian's permission and appropriate supervision. (I use staples and tape for the ones I make as seasonal decorations, so they can hold candy.) ___________________________________ Class structure: In this class, we will first learn how to cut down regular paper to the size of origami paper. (If you already have origami paper, that's good, too!) Next, we will learn how to fold the handle of our basket. After that, we will learn how to make the bottom part of the basket and attach the handle to it. Once we've done that, students can spend some time decorating their finished basket as they see fit or make another and decorate it before folding. Finally, if there's time left near the end of class, anyone who wants to show off their finished creation is welcome to. (If a student wants to show off their work but doesn't want to be on camera, they're welcome to step off to the side and hold out their basket within view of the camera.) ___________________________________ My Teaching Style: Demonstration and communication are my favorite tools to use in class. Origami is a very hands-on skill, and I feel this class would work well for homeschoolers and unschoolers, as well as any student who just learns better kinetically. I generally try to keep students unmuted, except in the case of noisy backgrounds, and all students are welcome to ask questions at any time. I do ask that they use the "raise hand" button, rather than calling out, but if there are only one or two students in the class, they're welcome to speak up as they wish. I also have a second camera, which will be pointed at my work surface, to give students a clear view of what I'm doing. But if they'd like to see it from another angle, by all means, just ask! ___________________________________ Class expectations: As is Outschool policy, I do not allow bullying or teasing. Everyone is welcome in my classroom and learning is always something to be encouraged. I do not ask students to remain on camera for more than the initial class check-in required by Outschool policy, but being able to see will help me help them with the trickier parts of this project. ___________________________________ Required Experience: Students don't need any former experience in origami, but should be able to fold a piece of paper. If they don't have origami paper, they should be able to use scissors safely or have an adult nearby to do the cutting for them. If they choose to use staples or tape, they should be able to use a tape dispenser and/or stapler safely, or have an adult nearby to help. (Please remember Outschool policy asks that parents and guardians remain out of view of the camera during class.)
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their fine motor skills by cutting and folding paper, and will have a chance to improve their social skills by interacting with other students, and to improve their creative skills by decorating their project.

Orientación para padres
Students without origami paper will be using scissors to cut regular paper down. They may also choose to use tape or staples if they wish. Younger students and students with difficulties that could make these a danger to them should have an adult closeby for assistance. (Please remember Outschool policy asks that parents and guardians remain out of view of the camera during class.)
Lista de útiles escolares
• Paper (Any paper is good. Printer paper, origami paper, scrapbook paper, or even wrapping paper! If you're using sheets of paper, you'll need at least two. If you're using wrapping paper, you'll only need a little bit of the roll.) • Scissors (If you don't have any precut origami paper on hand, I'll teach you how to cut your own.) OPTIONAL: • Stapler and staples • Tape (If you plan to use your basket for more than decoration, you'll probably want to use these.) • Crayons/Markers/Colored Pencils/etc. • Stickers/Glitter Glue/etc.
