Tarea

1 hora por semana. Weeks 1-3 will have a very brief homework assignment. Each week, students will present their homework findings in a manner of their choosing by posting the results to the classroom wall. Students may choose to write out their results, post a video, post a drawing or sketch, etc. The homework assignments generally will not take longer than 30 minutes to complete. Homework is used to extend learning and to allow for practice of research and/or presentation skills. Students will have one week from the date of the assignment to complete and submit their homework. Feedback will be given on homework assignments on a weekly basis.

During this four week self-paced course, students will be introduced to psychology. Students will work to define psychology and gain knowledge of the different disciplines within the field. By the end of the course, students will have developed a basic understanding of the field. No background knowledge is required, just an eagerness to learn. This is an exciting field with so many options!  

Overview: During this course, students will develop a basic understanding of psychology and many of the subfields that it consists of. Throughout this course, we will explore different specializations, the education requirements for each, as well as average salaries of a psychologist in each field. We will also touch on famous psychologists and/or experiments from the specialization areas. By the end of the class, students will have an understanding of each specialization and what it takes to become a psychologist.  

Methodology: Students will be provided with a course syllabus that contains step by step instructions for completing the class. Each week, the students will view a recorded presentation that incorporates multiple modalities (text, video, audio, etc.).  The handouts for the presentation will be made available for you to print (printing is optional). After viewing the presentation, students will respond to discussion posts in the classroom that are related to the weekly topic. Students will engage in on-topic discussions with their instructor and/or peers by using the discussion board(s). Students will be offered the opportunity to ask questions, as well as opportunities to further explore the material through brief weekly assignments. These assignments will also provide students an opportunity to improve their research and/or presentation skills.

Lección 1:

Introduction to Psychology

 This lesson will introduce psychology and explore the field of Industrial-Organizational Psychology.

Lección 2:

Clinical Psychology vs. Research Psychology

 Students will explore the domains of clinical psychology and research psychology.

Lección 3:

Educational Psychology & Animal Psychology

 Students will explore the disciplines of educational psychology and animal psychology.

Lección 4:

Forensic Psychology and Recap

 Students will be introduced to the field of forensics and will review concepts they have previously studied in class.

Orientación para padres

This course does incorporate the use of videos. While I don't anticipate any content issues with the videos, parents should be aware of one. A video shown in week 2 of this course briefly mentions a human sexuality researcher who published 2 books. The video does not go into any detail about the studies nor the books, just briefly mentions them. I simply like for parents to be aware of this. The comment occurs around the 4 minute, 21 second mark and the video can be previewed on the following link: https://youtu.be/hFV71QPvX2I In addition, during week 4 while discussing forensics serial killers are mentioned. I do not show any gory crime scene photos nor go into graphic detail of the crimes. However, I do mention several serial killer cases and discuss how forensic psychologists were involved in helping to solve the open cases. Parents are always welcome to review the slide handouts prior to class as they will be posted in the classroom.

A handout(s) will be provided by the teacher. The parent/guardian will be responsible for printing out the handout(s). You must have access to a PDF viewer in order to open and print the handouts. Printing the handout(s) is optional, you may also choose to download and save them rather than print. 

Lessons will be taught using PowerPoint Presentations and will also incorporate some YouTube videos. 

This course also utilizes a free online text book. Students must have internet access to read the text. The textbook can be accessed at:  https://socialsci.libretexts.org/Textbooks_and_TextMaps/Psychology/Book%3A_Introductory_Psychology_(OpenStax)/01%3A_Introduction_to_Psychology/1.1. 

There will be no additional books or materials to purchase for this course. 

Students must have access to a web browser to complete brief research assignments as well as to read the textbook.

As such, I feel that I have a unique perspective and can share some of my past experiences to encourage a future generation to explore a wonderful field.
