Why does life flourish on Earth, but not Venus or Mars? Where did the rings of Saturn come from? Why does the night sky seem to change from night-to-night? Where did the Moon come from and what did the Apollo astronauts discover on their journey? Just how many stars and galaxies are in the universe? Find the answers to these questions and many, many more in "Astronomy 101: The Universe Around Us!" In this fun and engaging course, students will learn all about the universe around them. The schedule is as follows: Week 1: The Solar System (Inner Planets) Week 2: The Solar System (Outer Planets) Week 3: Dwarf Planets, Moons, Asteroids, and Comets Week 4: The Sun, Earth, Moon System Week 5: Life Cycles of Stars, Types of Galaxies Week 6: The Universe Students only need an inquisitive mind, a willingness to learn, and a basic understanding of science. A variety of resources will be used and lessons will be a combination of presentations, short video clips, question-and-answer sessions, activities, demonstrations, and labs demonstrated by me. Learner progress will be evaluated through a variety of methods. These may include discussions, teacher questioning, warm-and other activities. I'll see you in class! As a certified Earth and Space Science teacher, I have over ten years of science instruction experience. Teaching Astronomy is a true passion of mine, and I am enthusiastic and engaging in my instruction style. I've been selected by NASA to present on its behalf to other Earth and Space Science teachers and at national educator conferences. I know you'll love my course!
It is my mission to help students become lifelong learners. I develop a good rapport with each student with my sense of humor, enthusiasm, and the ability to relate scientific concepts to students' everyday lives. While many students enter my class thinking science is boring, it is rare that they leave still believing so. I've won numerous awards and accolades for my highly-effective teaching strategies, and I know your young scholar will thrive in my classroom!
