Experiencia de clase

THIS CLASS is AFTER your learner has taken the 8 week beginning class..OR.....part 1 AND 2, 4 weeks and 4 weeks =totaling 8 weeks---of the beginning class. PLEASE reach out to request a day/time that works for you.

You will continue to learn American Sign Language (ASL) vocabulary and sentence structure, including proper ASL. We will play games and do fun activities, while learning! You will also learn details about Deaf culture, Deaf history and the Deaf community from videos, books and from the teacher. Some pages will be screenshot to show materials connected to the lessons. Each 55 minute class will involve vocabulary, and knowledge about ASL and the Deaf community, including Deaf history and about Deaf culture. There will be plenty of review each week. We will watch some short videos and discuss them in class, related to the information being taught. Learners will go into breakout rooms to practice their ASL vocabulary and sentences with one another, as the teacher pops into each "room" to assist, as needed, if enough learners are in the class. This is a very interactive class between teacher and all learners. It is important to have your camera on and your face and upper body visible, so the teacher and fellow learners can see everyone signing. ASL is a visual language! I have been teaching the beautiful language of American Sign Language (ASL) for over 20 years at many venues. I have taught at a public high school and a private middle school and high school. I also have taught at a teen center, recreation and park centers-ages 6 months (baby and me)--to adults, afterschool/in-school programs at public and private schools for ages preschool to 6th grade. I also have taught adults through an adult education program. I have taught many homeschoolers, as well, privately and in groups. I have taught using Zoom and I am very familiar with its functions.

I worked for GLAD (Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness) as a job counselor, advocate and ASL interpreter for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.

I graduated with my BA from California State University, Northridge, which was a huge Deaf Studies and ASL program. I have 50 post graduate units in special education and world languages. I also got my Teaching Credential in Multiple Subjects from CSUN.

I started an ASL program at a private high school from the ground up and created the entire curriculum for ASL 1,2,3, getting all three approved by the University of California, A-G high school graduation requirements. ASL is not English, and I will teach your children the proper way to sign in ASL, as well as teach about the rich and amazing Deaf culture, Deaf community and Deaf history.

I will move at the pace of the students in my classes. I love teaching through games and activities to engage and enlighten my students. I am also a published author and have been on TV and radio for my book: The Autism and ADHD Diet A Step-by-Step Guide to Hope and Healing by Living Gluten Free and Casein Free (GFCF) and Other Interventions
