 Course Objective:
ASL 5 works to expand and build on ASL 4 with Mrs. G. You will review vocabulary, grammar, and culturally appropriate uses of ASL through natural, everyday conversational situations. ASL 5 will allow students to work on quick retrieval of vocabulary for a variety of discussions. This course will encourage small and large group activities.
Since ASL is a visual/gestural language, you will need to develop communication skills of which you are not accustomed: using one's hands, face, body, eyes and space. In order to progress, it is important that students become comfortable "listening" with their eyes.

1. Bi-Weekly Discussion Posts: Discussion topics will be posted and reviewed during class meetings. Some discussions will need research. Students will need to post their findings and respond to fellow student findings. These will be due before the next weekly meeting.

2. Fingerspelling, Numbers and Core Vocabulary Review: Constant review of the vocabulary and regular practice of fingerspelling and numbers is critical to your progress in this course. You will be asked to review vocabulary regularly and perform dialogues to practice.

3. Receptive: To help you develop your receptive skills, you will be invited to Mrs. G’s exclusive Quizlets to take quizzes and master signs learned in class meetings.

4. Expressive : ASL 5 will have bi-weekly 100% "voices off" class sessions allowing for review and practice of signs previously learned the week prior. You will be expected to participate in group activities The expressive activities and class participation are designed to help you learn what fluent ASL "feels" like..

5. Class Participation: Attendance and participation is critical for learning. Please come prepared to be involved in class discussions and activities. ASL 5 is an extension and review of ASL 4 with an emphasis on prompted dialogs and bi-weekly "voices off".

Learning Objectives:
Students taking ASL 5 with Mrs. G will prepare for student advancement to ASL 6 and beyond with Mrs. G!

Homework:
Learners will complete weekly discussion board assignments. Post their findings and or "master" Quizlet.
