In this class, learners will review the five W question words; who, what, why, where and when. I will give the starting scenario for a short story and ask the learners to use the five W question words to develop their main character and develop the story line. Learners will write an opening paragraph for their story. I will then use the question list devised by Proust to encourage learners to develop the personality of their protagonist more. I will cover details such as under “Who?” the importance of giving characters names that suit their personality and their adventure. I will teach the class but I will give individual attention to each learner, I will make sure each learner speaks and each learner understands the lesson and task, and makes a start on writing a short story. My style is relaxed but I make sure learners learn concrete facts and can put them into practise. Learners are free to ask questions and discuss the lesson material with myself and other learners. No previous knowledge or skills needed for this lesson.
