In this one-time Art History class, Learner discovers how since prehistoric times music has been a meaningful aspect of our human experience, and how the themes of musical instruments and music itself have inspired visual artists and vice versa. Learner explores the main civilizations from Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, among others; the development of art styles (Medieval, Renaissance, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Futurism, Cubism, Surrealism, Abstractionism, Pop Art and more); master artists and masterpieces (such as Marc Chagall's dome of the Paris Opéra Garnier), including unique, extinct instruments which become works of art themselves. The class is structured with a friendly introduction, a vibrant and engaging slide presentation, exchanges, and Q&A session. Teaching style is kind and inclusive, emphasizing enthusiasm for the arts, with fascinating learning & discovery of less known historical details. For a sense of community engagement, gauging Learner's interest level, and to be able to adjust accordingly, open mics and videos are required in class. Towards the end of the class, Debussy's adagio, Claire de Lune, will be played and Learner will be invited (completely optional) to paint how they feel the music in a self-expressive, spontaneous way. This class is ideal for the kid who loves music and visual arts. Class size is kept small to allow for comments or questions. This class is one of a group of other one-time classes of Art History that follow a timeline through a central theme that sparks the young Learner's interests in cultures of the world and the arts. Each one-time class is unique, presenting new art works. Learner may further explore these one-time classes as each one presents new art and expands the exposure to world antiquity, main styles, master artists and their oeuvre. New terms introduced will be explained, such as 'en plein air', 'chiaroscuro', etc. helping Learner develop an understanding of art concepts. No previous experience is required.

Optional: Towards the end of the class, after understanding master artists' synesthesia between music & painting (Van Gogh, Kandinsky, Debussy, , Learner will be invited to listen to Debussy's Claire de Lune and "paint the music" in a totally spontaneous and personal manner. For this reason, students may want to have handy their art materials, such as drawing/painting paper, crayons, color pencils, watercolors, or any other media of their choice.
