Experiencia de clase

Art History for Kids
Create a work of art inspired by a famous artist!

In this ongoing class, learners will be introduced to a different artist each week. We will be sure to cover artists that are women and people of color. To start class, we will learn and have a discussion about the artist and their work. This will be done largely though a slide show while asking students about what they see. During this portion of class, each learner is given an opportunity to talk.
Next, we will make artwork of our own inspired by that week's artist. Some weeks, the students will be led in a directed drawing and asked to add creativity to their work wherever they see fit. Once and a while, students will be provided a prompt based off of that week's artist. In the last 5-10 minutes of class, students will individually share their work with the class. Some students will need time outside of class to finish their artwork.

There are over 100 artists planned for this course, so learners will have over 2 years in this class before projects repeat.

The following is a week by week breakdown of the artist and art medium covered in upcoming classes:

7/1 Giotto drawing
7/8 Mildred Thompson crayon drawing and watercolor painting

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
The two things I love most in life is art and teaching! I have a degree in art education and have lots of experience working with young students. I fell in love with art history with in college, and want to share my passion and knowledge with my students. I strive to do this by fostering meaningful conversations about the artwork, creating unique projects, and presenting them in developmentally appropriate and engaging ways.
