Important Notes: All of my classes are inclusive. Classes are suitable for the neurodiverse child. CEFR: B1-B2 or above. Class is very visual, colorful, beautiful, varied, so even at 75 minutes, young learner will remain engaged enjoying these cultural highlights of Japan. Class may be offered in Spanish. This class is one of three classes focusing on Japanese culture: General Highlights, Yayoi Kusama - Japan's Empress of ∞, Dots & Pumpkins and Ikebana. Learner enjoys a thorough introduction to the ancient history and culture of Japan, starting with the Jomon Period ca. 14,000 BCE to Post World War II. The class is so rich and beautiful, time completely flies by. The class will cover Japan's geography, the development of its culture, the impact of Shinto and Zen on its arts and ceremonies, such as Ikebana, contemplative gardens, shrines, toriis, temples, tea ceremony, moon viewing, Sumi-e; Bunraku (puppet), Noh and Kabuki Theater; famous woodblock prints, all the way to modern artists, as well as its many natural icons: Mount Fuji, the Bamboo Forest, Cherry Blossoms and The Festival of Firefly Lights, among other subjects. Class will also include cordial words in Japanese, such as hello, thank you, as well as culinary delights and dining etiquette. Class structure is interactive, in an environment that celebrates cultural curiosity, and aims to experience learning as a fascinating, enriching, and kindness infused opportunity. Class size is kept small so Learner feels personally welcome and supported to engage in the process. Class time of 90 minutes allows for a relaxed learning environment (time will fly by) where curiosity and spontaneous questions and comments are welcome. For these reasons, and for gauging Learner's interest level being able to adjust accordingly, I require open mics and video in my classes so there is a sense of community and engagement with the material. In our mindful, private class, Learner is asked to raise a hand when wishing to participate as this encourages grounding, patience and deep listening skills bringing with itself a myriad of benefits. Class includes information from reputable primary sources, are curated to be child-friendly, making the material come to life in a meaningful way. No previous experience is required.
