In this weekly art class, young artists will create a fun and exciting new masterpiece with a seasonal theme. Topics may include seasonal changes in nature, animals, holidays around the world, special places, and other seasonal events. We will begin each class with a short introduction to our project and art concept of the week. Then students will follow my step by step directions to draw our artwork of the day. - -Students will explore the elements of art through a seasonally themed artwork each week. -Students will gain a mastery of essential art techniques and vocabulary such as: landscape, seascape, foreground, background, still life, horizon line, pattern, color mixing, watercolor resist, tints, shades, and overlapping. -Students will share their creativity by adding unique details to their artworks.
I have taught elementary art for over 16 years and each of my lessons is developed thoughtfully and practiced ahead of time keeping in mind student skill level and interests. I am passionate about helping young artists find their unique artistic voices, and therefore I balance guided drawing with creative expression in this lesson. I aim to provide positive encouragement to students throughout our class time, and truly hope they enjoy our art club projects each week!

Please have the following supplies ready for each art class: - 9x12 Thicker white paper or watercolor paper - something that will not tear when painted (80lb weight or higher is usually good; I like Canson (100510941) XL Series Watercolor Pad, 9" x 12", Fold-Over Cover, 30 Sheets. A thick construction paper or card stock should work as well.) - Pencil with eraser - Black permanent Sharpie marker (must be a permanent marker) - Oil pastels or crayons (non washable) - Watercolor set (Prang or Crayola recommended) - Watercolor brush - Container with water (a container with a wider base or a bowl is less likely to spill) - Paper towels **You may also want a piece of poster board or large paper to cover the work area.
