Experiencia de clase

During this fun, creative art club, students will learn to sketch and draw landscapes, animals, and objects from nature. In spring, we will draw flowers, baby animals, birds, trees, and spring scenes. In summer, we will draw the beach, seashells, ocean animals, and palm trees. In the fall, we will draw fall themed items such as pumpkins, apples, owls, and farm scenes. In winter, we will draw pine trees, pinecones, snowy scenes, and arctic animals. Students can also give suggestions for future themes.

Students will learn about the basic techniques of drawing and sketching. We will practice techniques such as hatching, cross-hatching, shading, and smudging. We will learn the basic elements of art and how to draw them. Emphasis will be on value, form, positive and negative space, and texture. We will also discuss how to use shading and lighting to make our drawings appear 3D.

Please be prepared for class each week with drawing paper, pencils, charcoal (pencil or vine), eraser, smudge tool, and pencil sharpener.

Students will have plenty of time to talk to each other and to me during this club style class. I will give lots of encouraging and enthusiastic feedback. My teaching style is relaxed and I help students to develop their own artist style.

This class is open for beginners or advanced students who may need encouragement. I encourage creativity all along the way. I will be drawing along with students and showing techniques while we draw together.

Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art classes include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, elementary art projects that work on skill building, and learning about art history through fun projects about artists - including Non-Western and Women artists.

I teach art from my heart and aim to build self esteem in my students through the arts. I challenge students to find their inner artist through creativity and self expression. I believe in the process of art, individual expression, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each art project is designed to develop technical skills, artistic interpretation, and unique artwork. We have lots of fun while making artwork and socializing is encouraged during my art classes.

My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.
