¿Eres una persona de gatos o de perros?

Are you a cat person or dog person? If you're anything like me you're both! In this ongoing class, students have a chance to introduce their dog and/or cat and learn more about these popular family pets. You'll also meet my dog, Momar and my cat, Taylor Swift.


We'll learn more about both dogs and cats and find out what they have in common and what makes them unique. Discover the ancient roots of felines and canines and learn how they evolved into so many different breeds over time. Find out when, and how, dogs became popular companions to people and why some societies worshipped cats. We'll also learn the meaning behind some common dog and cat behaviors. I'll teach you some simple commands and tricks that you can do with your pet and we'll make healthy treats that you can offer them for positive reinforcement. Some weeks we'll make animal inspired art, toys and enrichments for our pets. Learn how to play with your dog or cat, doing things that they consider fun!


One thing that dogs and cats have in common is their love for play!

Dogs typically enjoy activities like playing fetch, going for walks, swimming, running, chasing toys, sniffing around, playing tug-of-war, engaging in hide-and-seek, participating in agility training, and generally spending time with their owners, as these activities provide both physical and mental stimulation depending on the dog's breed and personality. 

Cats like chasing toys, batting at objects, exploring their surroundings, climbing, watching birds outside a window, playing hide-and-seek, cuddling with their owners, and generally engaging in playful hunting behaviors, as their natural instincts drive them to stalk and capture prey even when playing with toys; essentially, anything that stimulates their curiosity and allows them to exercise their hunting behaviors is considered fun for a cat.
