Nivel de inglés - B1

Nivel Beginner - Advanced
During these tutoring sessions, I will meet your student where they are. If they are at the beginner level, we will cover the alphabet, basic phrases, basic grammar, and begin speaking and reading practice. We'll read, listen to, and reproduce short dialogues and write simple sentences. If your learner is intermediate or advanced, we'll work on writing sentences and paragraphs in Arabic based on prompts written by me and authentic texts from the web. We'll discuss cultural concepts and current topics in the U.S. and Arab world at this level. For all students, they will leave my lessons with greater confidence in their abilities, and what they need ace their next test or begin actively using Arabic. If they are learning in a formal school environment, we can cover homework and concepts your student struggles with. Courses and content are influenced and supported by industry standard textbooks for beginner to advanced students and authentic materials. We will cover basic topics such as food, Arab culture, holidays, and linguistic differences in the Arabic speaking world. Intermediate students will be presented more complex versions of these topics. Students in formal learning environments will also work on topics they are learning at school. A beginner class will consist of reviewing homework on the alphabet, learning to read words, and reviewing and learning words in Standard and Spoken (Levantine) Arabic. We'll also practice speaking and use important vocabulary and grammar from homework. An intermediate class will consist of reading simple, authentic texts about current events and topics you are interested in during class and responding verbally. You can ask questions about vocabulary and grammar during class. Based on your interests, I will assign homework assignments asking you to write about simple texts and learn and record more complex phrases, sentences, and cultural expressions. We'll review your work and responses in class. We'll also study vocabulary and grammar outside of class to understand simple texts and speak about them in class. I'll also answer your grammar questions to ensure you've mastered the topics being covered. An advanced class will consist of discussing topics you are interested in and reading complex articles in class from the Media, classical tradition, and any culturally specific texts. We'll then discuss the texts live in class after you read to develop opinions about what we read. Homework will consist of writing responses to articles and recording yourself speaking about your opinions, as well as advanced vocabulary and grammar. Students will bring questions about vocabulary, grammar, and cultural concepts to class. If you are studying in a classroom environment and need support with homework and key concepts, we will work with those materials. We'll focus on your challenges in vocabulary, grammar, speaking, reading, writing, and listening while attending to skills that will push you to the next level of proficiency. My teaching style is learner centered. This means my students speak more than I do. My teaching methods employ sociocultural techniques from Second Language Acquisition best practices. This means I want to bridge the gap between your learner's current skill level and the expert level. I also use scaffolding-this means when your learner struggles, I will use verbal feedback, audiovisual cues, and support in any way I can to help your learner understand. Overall, my methods are from the communicative language learning approach. Instead of focusing solely on reading and grammar, we will build skills to speak, read, write, and listen to real materials and authentic texts adapted for your learner's level. For group tutoring, learners will interact with their fellow students actively-asking questions, answering questions, typing in a chat (when appropriate), and actively seeking support from other learners who may have greater mastery of a topic. For private tutoring, they will interact with me and I will provide the same level of support. Learners will also interact with videos, age appropriate memes, games, discussion, and authentic materials pulled from the web. No experience is required for sessions with me. I accept and can support students at all levels, from zero beginners to advanced. The pace of the class will depend on the learner and their mastery of the subjects being covered. Learners will be accepted at all times and supported if they enroll in group classes late. I will get them up to speed through homework assignments and 1:1 tutoring if necessary.

For beginning learners, we will use the textbook Alif Baa (https://alkitaabtextbook.com/alifbaa/). We will also use the Al Jazeera Arabic learning site for beginners (https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=al+jazeera+arabic+learning&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8). For intermediate and advanced learners, we will use the Al Jazeera Arabic Learning site (https://learning.aljazeera.net/ar), grammar materials, and writing prompts developed by me. For all levels, we will use the freely available Five Colleges Arabic website (https://www.langmedia.fivecolleges.edu/languages/arabic).

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Why choose me? I went through the Arabic learning process myself and dedicated my PhD in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching to investigating how to best prepare curricula for Arabic students to understand authentic vocabulary and topics. I have publications on Arabic learning in respected peer reviewed academic journals. I lived, studied, and worked in Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon, but am American. I studied Arabic with a variety of prestigious study abroad programs and worked in the Middle East with prestigious study abroad programs such as NSLI-Y and CIEE. I have deep college and K-12 teaching experience working directly with learners who started where I did. I bring a unique perspective on culture and know what it takes to help you become proficient. I had my own challenges on the road to fluency-I use these experiences to enrich your lessons and ensure materials are appropriate, relevant, and authentic (and enjoyable!) I've developed custom curricula for K-12 students and had them go from zero beginner to speaking in sentences after two months of instruction on the weekends.
