In this class, students will learn about the life and experience of Anne Frank and those in the Secret Annex. Students are not expected to have read her diary, and students of all knowledge levels are welcome to attend.

Students can expect to learn some background knowledge on the political climate which led to Anne's family going into hiding. We will examine her time of living in the Secret Annex and how her story ended. Students will also learn how her legacy was created and carried on through her father and her diary entries. This class is intended to be informational and to help students empathize with those who lived during this time.

For many students, understanding the reality of those living during this time is difficult but Anne's story helps us understand how someone of her age coped with the fear of being caught by the Nazis. In this class, there will be a slideshow presentation with information and questions to help guide our discussion around Anne's experience. Students are welcome to bring any questions they have regarding the Holocaust and Anne's experience to class.

I am a certified teacher with a degree in history and I have studied the topic of the Holocaust extensively. I have taken courses that are focused on the Holocaust which has provided me with a thorough understanding of the events, people, and impacts that occurred as a result of the Holocaust. I am willing to answer any questions prior to the class about what students can expect if they are concerned about the sensitivity of the topic.
