Experiencia de clase

Students will learn what Anime is, what it is not, and how we can tell the difference between an American Cartoon and Anime.

Some anime history is explained

We will cover what are the names of different Anime genres? Why do some American Cartoons seem like Anime? Why does" Avatar the Last Airbender" seem like both an Anime and a Cartoon?

What is a custom? What are some customs we see in Anime that make it especially Japanese?

This class lecture uses slides and is conversationally interactive, we watch clips from some shows, students will answer questions, give their own thoughts, and be encouraged to ask about anything they are curious about! resources are available upon private message request.

With the extra time, we will draw one Anime face and hair, front view, very easy! I will use photoshop, however, students can use whatever drawing app they like (not from a phone), or pencil and paper.

I'm very relaxed about student participation! I understand students may be shy, so I will not force conversation, however, I strongly recommend the use of the chat to answer or ask questions, if speaking is not possible. Please be patient with my response time if I am asked questions while I present.

Please have pencils, erasers, and paper at the ready!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their understanding of what is Anime and how culture affects the design and storytelling

Students will learn how to draw in Anime Style with extra time, and make independent choices

Orientación para padres
Please encourage your child to participate before class, participation includes, answering or asking questions, and when drawing showing their work to get help. Younger learners may not understand the content. Strongly recommended youngest joining is age 8. We discuss stereotypes, i do not ask students what stereotypes they know, as that may not turn out well. We simply discuss the definition, Anime, cartoons,NYC stereotypes, and why stereotyping can limit our understanding of people and places.
