This 8-week class is an exciting and beginner-friendly course designed for students who want to explore the magical world of animation.

Taught by professional animator Erik Blohm-Gagné, this course introduces students to the 12 principles of animation through guided, weekly projects using the intuitive Flipaclip app.

Each session focuses on one or two core animation concepts, from squash and stretch to anticipation and follow-through. Students will learn to animate frame-by-frame, understand timing and motion, and develop confidence in their creative abilities—all while building a small portfolio of animated clips.

By the end of the course, they'll not only know the basics of movement and expression but will also be equipped with tools and knowledge to continue animating independently.

This course prepares aspiring animators for more advanced creative opportunities, builds strong visual storytelling skills, and empowers students to bring their ideas to life one frame at a time.

Hi everyone! I’m Erik — a lifelong artist and professional animator with over a decade of experience in the animation industry. My love for cartoons began in childhood and quickly evolved into a passion for bringing drawings to life. I began animating at a young age and went on to earn my Bachelor of Animation in 2015. Since then, I’ve worked professionally on a variety of projects, continuously growing both my artistic and technical skills.

In my classes, we’ll explore the Principles of Animation — timeless techniques first developed at Disney that are still essential for animators today. You’ll learn core concepts like timing, weight, squash and stretch, and how to make your drawings feel full of life and personality.

My teaching approach is inclusive, encouraging, and hands-on. I strive to create a welcoming environment where every student feels inspired to experiment, ask questions, and grow creatively. Whether you're just starting out or have some experience, I’ll guide you step by step — if you can draw a circle and a line, you can learn to animate!

Each week, students will build on their skills through fun, bite-sized assignments, gradually developing a deeper understanding of animation as both a craft and a powerful form of self-expression. By the end of the course, they’ll not only understand the fundamentals but also walk away with their own mini animations and a toolkit of creative confidence.
