Animal Science offers students the opportunity to explore the world of marine mammals like polar bears, whales, sea otters, and more, in this self-paced online course. 🌊

🌟In the first lesson, students will discover what makes an animal a marine mammal. After that, each week will focus on one unique animal, covering its anatomy, diet, habitat, endangered status, and much more. 

Each week features 3-4 tasks that can be done daily or in a single sitting, depending on what works best. Tasks include:

This self-paced course takes about 9 weeks to complete. Students are encouraged to move at their own pace.

What is a Marine Mammal?

 In this lesson we will explore what exactly a marine mammal is, learn vocabulary words, and sort animals into the four main family groups of marine mammals.

Whales

 Lets explore the differences between baleen and toothed whales. We will explore 4 different whales filling out worksheets for each. Students will label internal and external whale anatomy.

Manatee

 Diving into the world of manatees, students will learn about how they care for their young, facts about manatee, their diet, anatomy, habitat and more!

Orientación para padres

We will be using games through Wordwall, for safety students can use just their first name, nick names or the first letter of their name. These review games are optional and parents can have students review vocabulary a different way at home. Some assignments will need scissors and glue to complete worksheets, supervise students as needed. We will also be using Kahoot for the final assessment quiz.

Students need access to a printer, paper, pencils, coloring tools, scissors and gluesticks. Worksheets can also be completed with the Kami extension as well.

Growing up along the Oregon Coast, I’ve always had a deep love for the ocean and its creatures. I’ve taught youth classes at the Twin Rocks Outdoor School, focusing on tide pools and ocean ponds.
With over 14 years of experience working with children, I’ve held roles as a preschool teacher, church youth teacher, 4H leader/adviser, and have homeschooled my own children for over 11 years. I have training in early childhood education, working with children with special needs, and supporting at-risk youth. I'm excited to share my passion for ocean life with your students!
