Please refer to the class video to answer your questions on what is required and how to go about preparing for the presentation. If you have any further questions, please message me. Video and required worksheets are available upon registration.

I will create a visually stunning photo slide to accompany your child's presentation as they teach the class. If they feel confident in creating their own power point or google docs, we can discuss that further and figure out what works, but it is not necessary, as I am happy to create the slides for each learner.

Overview:

Each week, your learner will chose one animal to teach the rest of the class about.

The goal of this class is to get your animal detective comfortable with researching and presenting in a pressure free environment while building their ✨confidence✨ in their public speaking skills! This entire skill set will serve them well as they continue on in their educational journey!

Some learners may take up 5 minutes, and others may require more. Each learner technically has 10 minutes they can use for their presentation, but there is no pressure to make it last that long, as I will always have an animal on the back burner to teach about if we have extra time left in class.

Upon registering, a guideline will be attached to the course to help your animal detective know where to start, and what information to start digging up! It is then up to them how they wish to present this information once they have collected all of the facts!

Essentially, the research should show basic facts about the animal (classification, size, lifespan, etc...), unique adaptations that allow it to survive in this world, its habitat and lifestyle, reproduction (does it lay eggs, or give live birth, breeding season, etc...), predators, human impact, conservation efforts, and lastly, the importance of the animal's role in the ecosystem. This is broken down into more simple terms in the guideline.

To add additional ✨sparkle✨ to the presentation, everyone loves a tricky true or false question, as well as a couple of good trivia questions to conclude the presentation!

Other learners will raise their hands when they have a question, and your learner can pause at a natural stopping point to take any questions as they wish. I am here to moderate and provide guided instruction, but it is your learner's turn to take the stage!

I am also available for any questions your learner may have as they are preparing for their presentation. I will do my best to respond to messages in a timely manner!

How it will go:

The week before, each student needs to submit their animal by Wednesday on the class wall below the photo of the question marks, and I will need a photo of their notes by Saturday, so that I can create stunning visuals to accompany their work, and create any true or false, spot the imposter, and/or trivia slides that they want added.

If they are creating an actual online presentation using power point or google docs, etc... then they can just let me know if there is a video they would like to show about their animal during their presentation, and I will review it and I will play it from my side when the time comes. This is very important.

Students are welcome to draw the animal each student presents and show their drawings at the end of the presentation.

Necesidades de aprendizaje
Students are welcome to present however they wish! They can read their notes from the paper, they can put an online presentation together, whatever they prefer! We all learn differently, and I am here to support and help your child grow!
Requisitos previos
Aside from the ability to read and write, all that is required is a willingness to speak and share with their peers about their favorite animals! They will acquire their research skills and presentation skills as they go.
Lista de útiles escolares
If your learner wishes to take notes on the other student's presentations, they can bring something to write with to class.

If they wish to draw the animal their peer is teaching about, they can bring things to draw and color with as well and we can all show our drawings at the end!

Fuentes
It is totally up to the learner and their parents as to which websites or books they use to help them with their research. I will leave that up to you! Wiki has come a long way in the last few years in terms of accuracy, but I would still encourage your learner to verify any wiki facts with other websites to make certain it is correct.

Maestría desde University of Prince Edward Island
I hold a Masters of Education Degree (available upon request) and I have been teaching for nearly 20 years! While I have experience teaching a range of subjects over the past two decades, Animal Science and English are my two top favorites, so I am very happy to be able to create a course that will combine both aspects! When you love what you do, it shines through, and learners of all ages learn best when it is something they are also passionate about! A love for animals can unite people all over the globe!

My love of animals began as many of ours did, through animal encyclopedias and National Geographic Magazines! As a child of the 80's, we didn't have the internet at our fingertips, but the classics such as Steve Irwin, David Attenborough, and the Kratt brothers were a staple in my household!

I can't wait to meet your learner!
