Experiencia de clase

Welcome to your "New Horizons"! Each week, students will visit other islands or host visitors on their own island. Every other week, students will come to my 5-star island for giveaways and activities. We will play games such as Sardines, Hide-and-Seek, Scavenger Hunts, and Tag. (A Nintendo Switch Online Membership is required to visit other islands!)

*Please note that giveaways may vary depending on availability, seasonal items, and requests/hot items. Giveaways can include DIYs for popular sets (cherry blossom, mermaid, ice sets, etc), popular items (puppy plushies, gold tools, etc.) and other items, diys, materials, and clothing.

Week 1: Welcome to my island! Share your favorite tips and tricks for building, playing, gathering materials, and paying off loans and bells! Explore the island, give constructive feedback on things you enjoy and what you'd like to do differently!
Class activity: Go on a scavenger hunt and win up to 500,000 bells!

Week 2: Host Islands--2 students will invite other students to their islands! They will take people on a tour once everyone has arrived, show areas they're proud of, and invite suggestions for improvement. Students are welcome to host giveaways or a T1L1 (take one, leave one) event on their island if they would like, but they would not have to if they'd rather not.

Week 3: Museum Day--Students will explore my (incomplete) museum (scavenger hunt). Giveaway: Fossils! (Students are welcome to bring fossils to trade with other students if they'd like).

Week 4: Host island--2 students will invite other students to their islands! They will take people on a tour once everyone has arrived, show areas they're proud of, and invite suggestions for improvement. Students are welcome to host giveaways or a T1L1 (take one, leave one) event on their island if they would like, but they would not have to if they'd rather not.

Week 5: Building challenge--Students are challenged to build an outdoor restaurant/cafe on their island. I will invite them to my own food court area for inspiration and discussion, then they will spend the rest of class building on their own island. I will show students how cataloguing work, and provide students with the opportunity to catalogue furniture and decorative items for a kitchen/restaurant/dining area. (Cataloguing is when you pick up an item, then drop it again. This allows you then to go back to your island and purchase the item through Nook Shopping).

Week 6h: Host Island--2 students will invite other students to their islands! They will take people on a tour once everyone has arrived, show areas they're proud of, and invite suggestions for improvement. Students are welcome to host giveaways or a T1L1 (take one, leave one) event on their island if they would like, but they would not have to if they'd rather not.

Week 7: Nook Mile Islands--Students will each receive 5 nook mile tickets. They are then challenged to visit Nook Mile Islands and collect as many resources as possible. The person who collects the most resources will win a stack of gold nuggets!

Week 8: Dream Islands--Students will be shown how to visit Dream Islands. They will visit dream islands from their own island and share some of the cool things they find on different islands.

Week 9: Fashion Week--Just like in NYC, students will participate in Fashion Week! Before class, they should load their pockets with an assortment of clothing. We will have a fashion show where students will be challenged to dress in various styles (such as "fairy-tale", "athletic", "summer days", "Warm and toasty", "holiday", and "formal") using only the clothes they've brought with them.
We will have a clothing giveaway after our fashion show.

Week 10: Building challenge: Students will build a gym, classroom, garden shop, Zen garden, specific flower garden (such as a rose garden), shopping area, museum entrance, or some other new project for their island. They can visit my island or a dream island for inspiration. If students need materials for crafting DIYs, they can visit a Nook Mile Island or ask other people in the class for materials.

Ideas for giveaways that students can host:
Giveaway: Fossils
DIYs
Furniture
Clothing
Materials
Money, Gold, Nook Mile Tickets
T1L1 (Take one, leave one)--students bring things to trade, in any of the above types

If at any time, there are materials or furniture on my island students are interested in, they can reach out to me to see if I have an extra one, if I can get one for them, or if they can catalogue it. I have a huge inventory of resources, and am able to get many things. Students will know the week before the theme for the next week, so they have at least a week to gather materials.

Some statues in Animal Crossing are of nude figures. There are statues outside of my island that can be taken down, but the ones inside the museum cannot be removed. If this is something you'd like to avoid, please do not participate in the museum week.

Hello all! I'm so excited to get to know you and see you in the classroom! I have 7 years of teaching experience and love to teach all ages and subjects. I have my M.Ed in teaching, and most of my teaching experience is in upper elementary and ESL education. Classes I offer include French, writing, life skills, Harry Potter, elementary science and math. If there is a class you're interested in that isn't scheduled, please shoot me a message so we can work something out!
Everything I do in the classroom stems from the belief that every child can learn. I also believe that my job as a teacher is first to keep my students safe (physically, emotionally, etc.), then to help them learn, then to help them have fun. I try to make my classes as fun as possible to keep students engaged because I really believe learning can be enjoyable!
