What will be taught? In this class, students will learn about the trade practices and social structures of three major ancient civilizations: Mesopotamia, China, and Egypt. They'll explore how these societies used their rivers for trade and how these trade networks helped shape their social hierarchies. What topics will you cover? Mesopotamia: The role of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in trade, the goods exchanged, and the social structure from rulers to laborers. Ancient China: The importance of the Yellow River, the Silk Road, and how trade influenced social roles from emperors to peasants. Ancient Egypt: The Nile River as a trade route, the exchange of goods like papyrus, and the social pyramid from pharaohs to laborers. How is your class structured? The class is structured into three main sections, each focusing on one of the ancient civilizations: Mesopotamia, China, and Egypt. Each section includes a discussion of the civilization’s trade routes, key goods, and social structures, followed by a summary that ties all three civilizations together. How will you teach? I’ll teach through a combination of engaging lectures, interactive slides, and video clips. Each section will begin with a visual introduction to the civilization, followed by an explanation of its trade practices and social hierarchy. The content will be presented in a lively, narrative style to keep students interested. What's your teaching style? My teaching style is dynamic and engaging, using humor and storytelling to make history come alive. I focus on making connections between the past and the present, ensuring that students not only learn the facts but also understand their relevance today. How much will learners get to interact with you? Learners will interact with me throughout the class via: Lecture segments: Where I introduce and explain key concepts. Discussion prompts: To encourage students to share their thoughts and make connections. Interactive slides and video clips: That provide visual and engaging content. Q&A sessions: Where students can ask questions and clarify their understanding. Optional activities: Like designing a trade route, to deepen their learning and creativity.
