Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés - A2
Grado de EE. UU. 7 - 10
In this self paced class learners will read James Joyce's famous short story "Araby". This story is commonly read throughout lower and upper grade levels because it can be interpreted in more meaningful ways as readers gain life experience. Learners are provided with the following:
1. An annotated copy of the text
2. Historical information on the author and historical time period James Joyce lived
3. A literary element study guide that breaks down the story's literary elements/devices
4. Outlined instructions on writing a literary analysis essay

The lessons are broken up into 3 sections, beginning with an annotated reading of the text to model annotation habits. I then review the literary element study guide to assist learners with writing about the elements that formulate a story's central idea. I remind learners in my lesson videos that stories can be interpreted in many ways. In the third lesson, I guide learners through writing a text only literary analysis. I provide learners with an outline and discuss literary interpretations for other theories.
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will read "Araby" by James Joyce and identify literary elements in order to explain how a specific literary element develops a central idea. Learners will answer comprehension analysis questions for the story.
