In this One-Time (1.5 hr) Class entitled An Introduction to Korean War, 1950-1953 and its impact to 1977, we will investigate the causes, the course of events, and the impact of the Korean War up to the year 1977. Students will have an opportunity to share what they know about the Korean War and its impact through discussion of critical thinking questions which will be addressed by the group. Several document-based activities will either be attempted during class (time permitting) or may be completed by the student as independent practice; a number of resources will be attached to the classroom page for the student. Topics to be covered and goals of the class: Analyze the causes of the Korean War and how the Cold War affected it Differentiate the aims of Kim Il-Sung and Syngman Rhee Discuss US, UN and China’s involvement in the war Explain why Harry Truman dismissed General Douglas MacArthur Assess the causes of stalemate in the war Describe the situation in Asia in 1953
