The name Benedict Arnold has become synonymous with the word traitor. In this class we will learn more about the treasonous act Arnold committed during the American Revolutionary War as well as his earlier accomplishments as General Arnold of the Continental Army. The class will cover young Benedict Arnold's personal life and his military journey during the Revolutionary War in the first class. In the second class we will look at Arnold's act of treason and his military career in the British Army. The class will use Google slides, discussion, pictures and primary sources to understand the life and legacy of Arnold. Learners will have an opportunity to discuss how one bad choice can erase any previous good choices in how history remembers people. As a final review during the second week, learners will been given a teacher created worksheet to use their knowledge to create ideas for a fake Benedict Arnold social media profile based on his life. Bring some paper to write on, a pencil, and an open mind to learning history! Week 1: Benedict Arnold the American Patriot During the first class we will understand who Benedict Arnold was and how he supported the American cause earning the respect and trust of men like George Washington. Week 2: Benedict Arnold the American Traitor During the second class we will learn what Benedict Arnold did to betray his country and how the British rewarded him for his desire to help their cause. We will summarize Arnold's life and legacy in a review activity.
