How is this class conducted:
Each week, the instructor will post three assignments: a full video lesson, a practice assignment, and a receptive video. The assignments can all be done at the convenience of your schedule though I do encourage students to do them weekly so they do not get behind. I will post all three assignments on a Monday. You can decide the schedule on when to complete them.

Lesson Schedule:
Week 1: Deaf Cultural Norms
-Students will learn about Deaf culture and the importance of Sign Language to the community

-Objects
In our second week, your child will learn basic objects we tend to see daily. These objects will be used in future lessons as well when we begin more phrasing.

Our ninth week will consist of a continuation on time while incorporating objects from our previous lesson. This may include, "At 7:00PM, I will start my homework."

Week 10:
-Review Day
In our tenth week, we will review all that we have learned so far. There will be a "mid-term quiz" of material students can choose to take as well as a recording quiz. *These are optional, however, highly suggested!

Week 14
-Intro to Grammar
In our fourteenth week, students will learn very basic ASL grammar. This will include a TOPIC + COMMENT grammar lesson. They will put this into practice with some new phrases.

Week 15
-Review Day
In our last and final week of ASL II, we will do a comprehensive review of all 15 weeks of this course. There will be a final assessment; An expressive and receptive.

Metas de aprendizaje

At the end of this course, students should be able to sign: Objects and some common words, clothing, activities, time, affirmations and negations, careers, and basic grammar

Learners will not only learn signs but will also have receptive practice lessons every week. Receptive skills are a crucial part of the language and will benefit expressive skills as well. This is also a fun activity for learners. Many feel accomplished and proud they can understand the visual language!

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I studied American Sign Language Interpreting in college and received my Bachelor's Degree through Northern Arizona University. I have been a Sign Language Interpreter in the K-12 setting for the past eight years. I am fluent and passionate about this beautiful language and Deaf culture. I also have experience in teaching. So I figured why not merge the two together!
