Tarea
1-2 horas por semana. It is asked for students to practice at home 1-2 hours after each session. Students will also be asked to tell a story or sign a short song before the semester is over.
Evaluación
Teacher will be watching student's hand placement and assist them with correct hand placement and ASL grammar. If done accurately, the student will be able to test out of ASL 1 and use it as a High School credit.

You can jump in mid semester but it’s recommended you already know the alphabet and colors in ASL , I will work with you. It is also recommended for those who need extra time to take two semesters of this course before going to ASL 2 (it just depends on what you’re feel

Week 1: The basics: Students will learn the basic alphabet, numbers, as well as basic words. Students will be able to finger spell their name and teacher will help with proper hand placement. This week we will also be learning words pertaining to family, people and pronouns.
Week 2:  We will be learning about different types of animals this week in sign language as well as food. Students will be able to tell in sign language what their favorite food is and animal. We will do basic sentences this week.
Week 3 Students will be learning Actions and Related words proper hand placement for these words. Students will also be learning words that are pertaining to sports, recreation and hobbies.
Week 4:  This week students will learn about nature, science , holidays, location and direction and proper hand placement of these signs.
Week 5:  Theme week! Students will pick the theme they want to learn this week; it can be anything from Star Wars, Harry Potter or Disney. Teacher will provide nouns, adjectives and verbs that go with theme.
Week 6:  this  week we will learn about thoughts, emotions and abstract ideas. We will learn proper eye movement, facial expression and hand placement.
Week 7:  This week we will learn about words pertaining to education and careers. 
Week 8:  Students will learn basic signs for nouns of their choice. Teacher will ask students to list 5 nouns they want to learn the sign for.
Week 9:  Students will be learning the signs for verbs this week. Students will learn to use correct ASL syntax when signing sentences.
Week 10:  Students will learn about adjectives this week and students will be able to describe nouns in ASL with the adjective list provided.
Week 11:  Students will work on Money and Time. This is a very difficult section and students will require alot of focus. We will extend week 11 to week 12 if needed.
Week 12:Health, Medical , Weather and Seasons will be learned this week. This week would be good for anyone who aim to work in the medical or teaching field and comes across a deaf or hh person.
Week 13:  LGBTQ+ signs. Students will learn culturally appropriate signs for the community as provided by NAD (National Association for the Deaf) and Galluadet University.

I have left three weeks free because I'm positive there will be sometime when I will need an extra week to focus on a certain topic. Students will know how to accurately sign sentences and learn about the ASL syntax. Students will be ready for ASL 2 after this course and this course can be counted as High School credit (You can test out.)
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their understanding of ASL language and deaf culture. Students will interact with peers and teacher to effectively learn basic words and sentences of ASL 1.

This class is inclusive for all types of students of race, gender and sexual orientation. This is an open discussion where students can freely express themselves in sign language.

Fuentes
If you want a book for assistance: Signing Illustrated by Mickey Flodin is commonly used. However, some of the signs in the book are Signed Exact English (SEE) and not American Sign Language.
