Are you as excited as I am for American Girl's 35th anniversary?! I'm SO excited... so excited that I am throwing my own birthday party! American Girl is SUPER special to me. Not only did I have AG dolls growing up and have read most of the books, but I also worked at the Chicago AG store in college. It was one of my favorite jobs! Even to this day, the pink lemonade and M&M cookies are still some of my favorite treats. I would get these little treats right outside of the cafe. That's why I am throwing an M&M cookie-making party to celebrate! Students will make and bake the M&M cookies from beginning to end! We will work through the recipe together (with our dolls of course!) We will mix all of the ingredients together, whip up our magical batter onto the cookie sheet, and BAKE! While the cookies are baking, we will play some fun games all to celebrate the 35th anniversary of American Girl! At the end of the class, we will show off our beautiful cookies and have a little cookie-eating party with our pink lemonade. Don't forget to make a few doll-sized cookies for your doll! This is such a fun class for students to bake and get to know each other while celebrating the American Girl anniversary! **Parental supervision may be needed as girls will be using a mixer and an oven**.

Hi there! My name is Mrs. Rodenbeck and I am a middle school history teacher! I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th, grade history for the past 5 years! Before that, I taught high school history. I absolutely LOVE learning about people from the past! I like understanding how people lived in different times in history.
I studied anthropology in college. My goal as a kid was to be Indiana Jones! Archaeology and cultural anthropology are my favorite disciplines. I like to learn about what past peoples have built and how those things impact their culture. I’ve even done work for Chicago’s Field Museum since 2007. Now I work in the education department at the Field Museum with other teachers and bringing history topics into their classrooms.
I love teaching about the American Girl books and their periods of time in history because I used to WORK at the American Girl store in Chicago. I worked there all throughout my college years. I loved American Girl when I was a kid and I loved it, even more, when I worked at the store in college!
I hope that from my courses, you can take some of my passion for history and for American Girl and get a little more excited about learning about other people. There are so many fun and exciting things to learn about! I can’t wait to share them with you!
