In this four time science and literacy class, learners will learn all about MAGNETS. In the first class, they will help complete a chart that will help define what a magnet is and what a magnet is not and what a magnet is used for. They will build background knowledge. They will then listen to a short non fiction book called Magnets by Judith Cowan. They will then refer back to the chart to add more information. In the second lesson, learners will focus on the vocabulary word: magnetic. They will draw a step by step magnet with the teacher and then add objects that are magnetic to the magnet. They will be encouraged to discuss and make predictions and share their thinking. In the third lesson, learners will work on two science vocabulary words: repel and attract. They will listen to a short non fiction book called Magnets by Margie Burton. They will create a chart with the non fiction labels of repel and attract and decide and experiment with objects that repel or attract a magnet. In the last lesson, the learners will learn all about the poles of a magnet and what happens when a south pole on one magnet and a south pole on another magnet are moved closer. And what happens when a north pole and a south pole are moved together. Magnets are very interesting and so important in our everyday lives. Let me know if you need help enrolling your child or if you would like this 4 time course added with different times/dates. Magnets are fun!
