In this ongoing course, your child will learn about everything from the coolest, creepy crawlies on the forest floor, to the most amazing animals hiding among the rainforest's canopy, and let's not forget about the creatures who lurk in the mysterious Amazon River! For a weekly breakdown of topics, please see the course outline at the bottom of this section. Ongoing courses loop back around, so if your child starts mid course, they can simply loop around until they get all of the animals in! The diversity within the animal kingdom is incredible! In this ongoing class, we will dive into this world by exploring 2 unique creatures from the Amazon Rainforest each week. Did you know that shape-shifters aren't just a myth? Or that there are otters large and fierce enough to kill a Crocodile or a Caiman? You may also be surprised to learn that Piranhas don't attack swimmers unless they feel threatened - if you leave them alone, they will leave you alone! Each week, we will thoroughly cover 2 interesting creatures. Afterwards, learners will be encouraged to share which animal they think is the coolest, and why! Finally, we will play a short trivia game about what we’ve learned! Answers are sent privately though class chat, and the game is optional, so there is no pressure for learners to play. They are welcome to observe if they prefer! Afterward, they can enjoy a game of Kahoot! to test their new knowledge! Approved Youtube videos pertaining to the animals we are studying each week will be posted in the classroom prior to class to enhance your child's learning experience. Learners will also be encouraged to post their ANIMAL HIGHLIGHTS from each class! I will guide this discussion on the classroom wall so that everyone has the opportunity to share what they feel were the most interesting facts/highlights from each class! As always, questions and comments are welcome, and my enthusiastic, authentic learner based approach will ensure that your child gets the most out of our time together. They will be able to come to you with new knowledge to share, so that you too, can share in their learning experience! I look forward to building this community of like-minded learners as we take on the coolest creatures in the Amazon together! Do you have an animal lover in your life? Or perhaps a future zoologist, veterinarian, or conservation minded young learner? Then you've come to the right spot!
My name is Marie, and as an Animal Science teacher, I would love to teach your child all about the amazing animals in this world!
I have taught over 20,000 students on Outschool, and I have 18 years of experience teaching at all levels.
I believe in eliciting as much student output as possible. Learners are encouraged to ask questions (and to share knowledge on each topic) as we learn together.
When I am not playing an instrument, I enjoy watching every nature show in existence alongside my children, learning as much as I can about the weird animals in the world so that I can bring it to the classroom and share it with your child!
I look forward to meeting your learner in class!
Ms. Marie
