This is a great class for students who are just beginning to recognize the letters of the alphabet, knows their letter sounds or needs practice with letter sounds and for those who just want to review/connect with other students while practicing letter sounds. I use synthetic phonics throughout our time together as well as fun and engaging activities!

We will begin with an introduction from the teacher and students will have the opportunity to say his/her name while we warm up. We will get to know each other with an age-appropriate discussion topic.

Next, students will be focused on identifying a letter of the alphabet on screen or through flashcards and objects the teacher provides for props. Our classmates will be engaged in an activity that will help them remember the short sound that letter says through finding words/objects that start with that letter on the screen or in the teacher's props. The words provided during our word search will be objects we can find in most of our homes to represent that letter. We will discuss safe and respectful practices for going on a scavenger hunt in our home before we find one object in one minute to share with our friends that start with our letter.

Each student will be given the opportunity to share the object they found. We will be building community this way and learning how to interact together in the online classroom setting while reviewing our letter of the day.

If time allows, following our show and share time, we will be creating a simple craft by tracing our hands to represent our letter and writing our letter down when we label our picture together.

To wrap the class up, we will share our crafts and review/share what we learned in class that day. We will also have a tracing our letters activity using Nearpod. I will send a link to everyone in the chat box on zoom that will ask them to enter their name. They can use just their first name and last initial. Students can use their mouse (or their screen if it's a touch screen) to trace the letter of the day and find that letter in a word. We will get to show and tell these activities too!

We will focus on one letter a day to make sure students have enough time to focus on that one letter, it's sound and truly soak in what words start with that letter. I will include the letter for each day to give parents the opportunity to dig for the object in the scavenger hunt. Please leave it in a visible spot for your learner to find during class and feel like they have been on a "hunt".

Letter by day:
Day 1: A
Day 2: T
Day 3: U
Day 4: X
Day 5: S
Day 6: B
Day 7: D
Day 8: M
Day 9: P
Day 10: K
Day 11: C
Day 12: E
Day 13: Ii
Day 14: L
Day 15: N
Day 16: F

Day 23: V
Day 24: W

***Note-students may also draw an object if scavenger hunts are not possible in the home or if the student is unable to find an object. Everyone will have an opportunity to share, but shy students will not be forced to share if he/she feels uncomfortable. That student may hold their object up or observe. Just signal to the teacher with a simple no head shake or a thumbs down/pass so the teacher will know to move on. The hope is everyone will eventually feel comfortable sharing with each other over time. I too was shy as a young kiddo so I completely get it and I will not put anyone on the spot who is not ready!

This is currently offered as an ongoing class which means you are automatically subscribed to take this class each week at the same time to provide stability for students with a routine and to make it easy booking wise. No need to dig for a class each week! If you feel the need to leave and return, you are always welcome to do so! <3

I can't wait to see you there!

Orientación para padres
Students should be able to complete this class without parental guidance, but guidance may be needed during our craft time. I will always do my best to keep crafts as simple as possible so there is minimal prep needed or materials needed on the parents part.

I have been teaching 3-12 year olds English as a Second Language as well as Language Arts to students in China, Hong Kong, the UK and the U.S online since 2018 and in person off and on since 2007.

My neurodivergence has helped me reach many students who may be neurodivergent themselves or feel misunderstood. I connect well with students of needs and I enjoy getting to help all students build their confidence by meeting them where they are in their learning journey.

I cannot wait to help your little one have fun learning their Alphabet, phonemes and make friends too! <3
