Welcome to Ireland! I am so glad you have packed your bags and are ready to go on a virtual trip with me. This class weaves together the history of St. Patrick's Day with a trip through modern day Ireland. Class will start with St. Patrick's Day icebreakers, "If you found a pot of gold, what would you spend it on?" or "What is the closest green object to you?" and more. Next, we will begin learning about St. Patrick's Day by playing St. Patrick's Day Fact or Fiction. Thumbs up, Fact. Thumbs down, Fiction! After, we will head to Dublin on a a modern airplane and learn about places throughout Ireland that are associated with Maewyn Succat aka St. Patrick. For example, the Down Cathedral in Downpatrick, Co. or Strandhill’s Killaspugbrone Church (where St. Patrick lost a tooth which later became enshrined). Next we we head to the National Museum of Ireland where we will see some of St. Patrick's relics. We will end class with a look at how people in Ireland and around the world celebrate St. Patrick's Day today. I am a fun and flexible teacher. I encourage students to ask questions and share as they wish. Learners will have the opportunity to interact with myself and other classmates throughout class. Class is guided through a colorful google slide presentation packed with games, video clips and imagery. Learners do not need to have any experience or knowledge to participate in this class. Please note that this class is secular and I do not take any specific religious view while teaching. Facts about St. Patrick will be presented as they are known from historical records.
