Despite their name, Red Pandas are more closely related to raccoons then Pandas. However, they are just as adorable. Classified as endangered, there are fewer than 10,000 in the wild with the largest threats listed as poaching and loss of habitat. It’s estimated that there’s been a 40% decrease in numbers over the last 50 years alone. In this class we will discuss their history, habitat and draw a red panda of our very own. The teacher will guide the students step by step and also provide a coloring handout for learners that have a hard time drawing free hand. Each student will create a character profile for the red panda and share a story with the class. This is a fun, laid back class that will teach students about red pandas and where they fit in the animal kingdom. Students will walk away with their very own version of a red panda.
Metas de aprendizaje
Teacher will provide slides with 25 facts about red pandas and their habitat. Step by Step instruction on how to draw a red panda will be provided (teacher will draw with students). Each student will then name their panda and create a short adventure to share with their classmates. Students may choose to write the story (around a paragraph) out or just verbally tell us about their zany red panda adventures.
