Lesson 2
What is a noun?
All about nouns: what they are and how they function in a sentence.

What is a pronoun?
The different types of pronouns and how they function in a sentence.
 Week 2
Lesson 4
What is an adjective?
Adjective can really dress up writing when used properly. This lesson will include some practice with fun, silly sentences. Homework: identify nouns, pronouns, adjectives.
Lesson 5
What is a verb?
All about verbs: whew! there are a lot of them. How to distinguish one from another and how they function in a sentence.
Lesson 6
What is an adverb and a preposition?
All about adverbs and prepositions and how they function in a sentence.
 Week 3
Lesson 7
What is a conjunction and interjection?
One is important, the other... not so much. How they function (or not) in a sentence. Putting it all together - let's identify the parts of speech and write some examples of our own. Homework: identify verbs, adverbs, and prepositions.

Learn about compound and complex sentences. Homework: identifying and writing own simple and complex sentences.

Creative writing that applies what we have learned.
  • Students will learn 5 parts of a sentence: subject, predicate verb, direct object, indirect object, and subject complements.
  • Students will learn the difference between a phrase and a clause and how to identify each.
  • Students will learn how to write and identify simple, complex, compound, and compound-complex sentences.
  • Students will learn 8 parts of speech: nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections.
