Learners in Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 will be able to identify the degree of the variables, determine the GCF, and “factor” or divide it out of the expression. Learners should be familiar with the concept of variables (x’s and y’s in a math problem) and with the concept of exponents. I'll walk them through the process of finding the GCF for variables, step-by-step. I'm a high school math teacher with a master’s degree in Education, and I specialize in working with students who struggle with math. I use scaffolded instruction, which simply means that I provide more support at the beginning and gradually students work more and more independently with each new problem.
