Grado de EE. UU. 9 - 12
This is the first quarter of Algebra 2. This course is rigorous and should only be taken by students who have successfully completed Algebra 1. This class is best for self-motivated students who like math and will work hard both in and outside of class. Students will expand upon the skills they learned in Algebra 1. We will review solving equations, inequalities, systems of equations, and will graph standard parent functions on the coordinate plane and then transform them. Graphing calculators will be utilized (we will use Desmos.com) which is a free resource. Topics to be covered in Algebra 2: Quarter 1 Week 1: Order of Operations, Solving Equations, Absolute Value Equations Week 2: Inequalities & Unit 1 Review Week 3: Intro to Functions, Graphing Linear Equations Week 4: Equations of Lines, Linear Word Problems, Systems of Equations in 2 Variables Week 5: Systems of Equations in 3 Variables, Linear Inequalities Week 6: Unit 2 Review & Piecewise Functions & Absolute Value Graphs Week 7: Function Families--Linear, Abs. Value, & Quadratic Week 8: Vertex Form of a Quadratic, End Behavior & Increasing/Decreasing Functions Material will be presented in a straightforward "I do, we do, you do" approach. Students will first see a detailed example before working problems with instructor guidance before solving problems on their own. The students will be given opportunities to try the skills in class with instructor guidance and then will practice on their own after class. Required homework will be assigned after each class session and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete daily (2-4 hours a week). Answer keys will be posted to the homework assignments so students may assess their own progress. Optional quizzes and tests will also be assigned throughout the course. A final grade can be assigned at parent/guardian request.
Metas de aprendizaje
In this quarter, we will focus on the skills of solving multi-step equations and inequalities, solving linear systems, and graphing functions and their transformations in the coordinate plane.
