Experiencia de clase

Standardized tests are being scheduled all over the United States. Most Algebra 1 tests are a graduation qualifying exam. I will use the online Florida Practice Test to review some of the basics that will be cover on most national tests. In Florida, the practice test is given before the exam in class but the emphasis is on using computer tools. Proctors in the classroom may or may not go through the problems due to time constraints. The test is generally word-problem heavy. The test items will be explained and worked with students in two sessions. We will review functions including operations on functions, graphing, interpreting graphs, domain, range, and comparing. We will look at linear, quadratic, and exponential functions in detail.
Week 1: In session 1 we will look at the questions that will have no calculator allowed.
Week 2: In session 2 a scientific calculator is allowed.
I hope to follow this class with a multi-part class with an Algebra Bootcamp to add extra practice problems.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have taught math in middle school and high school in Indiana and Florida since 2001.
I think math is a fun puzzle that anyone can learn.
Sometimes people get frustrated because you don't learn fast enough but real thinkers learn lots of information and put it together. That takes time. I enjoy hands-on games to learn rote facts that are the building blocks of knowledge. While working my way through college I taught first graders who had not been to preschool about letters and numbers.
I like to have fun with Snapchat filters when I teach so don't be surprised if you are being taught by a potato when you have to dig deep for understanding, or a punk dill pickle when things tough situations arise.
