In Algebra 1, instructional time will emphasize five areas: (1) performing operations with polynomials and radicals, and extending the Laws of Exponents to include rational exponents; (2) extending understanding of functions to linear, quadratic and exponential functions and using them to model and analyze real-world relationships; (3) solving quadratic equations in one variable and systems of linear equations and inequalities in two variables; (4) building functions, identifying their key features and representing them in various ways and (5) representing and interpreting categorical and numerical data with one and two variables. Our class will be taught in this format (55 minutes) 1) Review Homework from Previous Day: 10 minutes 2) Direct Instruction Notes: 30-40 minutes 3) Exit Ticket Check Yourself: 5-15 Minutes Anytime I have the chance I love to interject financial literacy concepts into the math whenever we cover real world scenarios. These concepts will be prevalent in almost every unit in some way. My theory is that student need to know "why" they are learning what they are learning rather than "because you have to." Students will have live lessons 3 times a week, but I will also have office hours outside of my class from 6pm-8pm where students can message me through Outschool. The class content builds each week. The best way to take this course is from beginning of the course to the end, but students are welcome to join any time. Reach out to me if you are not sure whether your student is ready to join mid-year; I can provide a list of topics they should be familiar with up to any point and help you determine whether they are ready to jump in. Friday is our make-up day. In the rare case that I must miss a class due to illness or personal emergency, we will have make-up classes on Friday at the same time as our usual class. If a student misses class, no make-up class will be offered, but the student is welcome to view the class recording, provided they have attended at least one live class.

I have 8 years of teaching experience and counting teaching high school. I have been rated as a highly effective teacher from the State of Florida every year since the start of my employment.
I have taught Algebra 1 these past 8 years as well as other courses such Algebra 2, Math for College Algebra, Advanced Topics, and Math for Data and Financial Literacy. I currently teach mostly finance which is the direction I like to take my teaching when teaching real world scenarios in Algebra 1.
