For those who love to learn about African/Black history and culture, this class is for you! In an 8 week course, we will learn about a new African heru(hero) per week. By the end, you will know African figures who do not usually get celebrated or talked about in social studies classes. We will also be creating different art projects for each heru we learn about, so bring your creativity to each and every class.
Classes will always begin with an exciting warm-up, a small video about the African figure, and a large, hands-on art project that will take up the majority of class time. If time permits, classes will end with a share and tell, a review game, or closing circle thoughts. Learners are encouraged to keep their mics on throughout the class, have fun interacting with peers, and to be excited about learning new things in ourstory (history) and art. Instructor will use videos, quotes, and images of each heru in order to best showcase why they are important figures in African ourstory. Discussion during class is highly encouraged.

The African figures are chosen from different points of time and may need to include some context of the greater social/political period.
