In this class, students will learn about one of the most fearless leaders in American History, Malcolm X. They will learn the history about his early life and why he is an important historical figure today. We will talk about him as a person and as a civil rights activist. They will be able to understand how his beliefs with the civil rights movement were different from Dr. Martin Luther Kings beliefs when it came to fighting for the civil rights of African Americans. They will also learn how both leaders wanted equality. They will learn the difficulties he faced and how he handled those tough/unfair situations. We will have discussions about his role in the civil rights movement, how he helped, and how he still inspires people today to fight for what is right.

As an ESL Teacher and Tutor, I have taught classes on African American history, American Figures, and the civil rights movement for over 4 years. I have experience in teaching this subject to students in elementary, middle, and high school. I also have experience tutoring college students. I have a degree in Communications, so I will be able to communicate and teach this topic without being bias. I was able to research, write essays, and give speeches about this topic throughout college. I was trained by professionals to understand history and the issues surrounding history. I have taken many African American courses and surrounding black history. Most importantly, I will allow each student to express their thoughts and opinions about this topic. This will help them communicate and show what they have learned. It is very important to include all students.
