In this unique Science class we are connecting our learning by investigating a new famous African American pioneer each day and connecting the past to the present with a fun LAB or HANDS ON science activity. Students will explore design challenges just as Elijah McCoy did, make tools to monitor the weather like June Bacon-Bercey did, understand the aerodynamics of flight like Bessie Coleman did, and investigate life-saving DNA as witnessed in the story of Henrietta Lacks. These scientists, engineers, and inventors find the solutions to the world's problems. In this class learners will learn about the work that these Black scientists and inventors have accomplished that make our lives better. *This class can easily be modified for organizations or schools. Simply choose a lesson from below and send us a message* Week 1-Claudia Alexander | Invisible Ink (make a hidden/invisible treasure map) Week 2-June Bacon-Bercey | Create a Weather Instrument Using Household Items (DIY Thermometer) Week 3-Bessie Coleman | Make a paper airplane and add weights to different areas to test for speed and distance during flight Week 4- Henrietta Lacks | Learn how to extract DNA from strawberries Week 5- Lewis Latimer | Lets Make Oobleck!
