Students will learn about how interracial marriage remained illegal in the south, well into the1960's, specifically when it came to marriages between black and white Americans. They will learn about how the supreme court changed that forever in 1967 through the case of Loving V. the State of Virginia. Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving were an interracial couple who were thrown in jail for living as a married couple in a state where interracial marriage was illegal after getting legally married in a state where it was legal. Students will learn about the laws that surrounded this case, and how the Loving's were able to overcome the anti-miscegenation laws in the south and finally be together legally. We will have a discussion about why anti-miscegenation laws were unfair and how they affected interracial couples in America. We will also talk about how the ruling in Loving V. the state of Virginia affects interracial marriages today. This class will be very informative and it also connects to my other African American classes. This lesson will be interactive, and each student will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. If you have any questions about the class or suggestions please send a message. This class could possibly go over 30 minutes, as I love to give all students the time speak if they chose to do so.

As an ESL Teacher and Tutor, I have taught classes on African American history, American Figures, Racism, and the civil rights movement for over 4 years. I have experience in teaching this subject to students in elementary, middle, and high school. I also have experience tutoring college students. I have a degree in Communications, so I will be able to communicate and teach this topic without being bias. I was able to research, write essays, and give speeches about this topic throughout college. I was trained by professionals to understand history and the issues surrounding history. Most importantly, I will allow each student to express their thoughts and opinions about this topic. This will help them communicate and show what they have learned. It is very important to include all students. I have taught African American history for 2 years. I studied communications in colleges which heavily focused on Afro and African American studies.
