Students love to learn through play! So why not make learning about ADHD and executive functions easier to digest by using play! The Brain Games ADHD summer camp provides this for your student. The fourth session in the summer camp series is about: TASK INITIATION AND PROCRASTINATION! During each four-day /week group summer camp section, students will engage in a variety of challenges and games to practice skills related to this executive function topic of the week. There are six different camp sessions to choose from. In each session, we'll take a deep dive into one of the following executive functions that are related to ADHD challenges. Choose one or all, depending on your schedule. The content does not build from one session to another: 🧠 1. Attention 🧠 2. Working Memory 🧠 3. Planning/Organization 🧠 4. Task Initiation/Procrastination 🧠 5. Perseverance 🧠 6. Inhibition/Emotional Control The four-meeting sequence for this session is outlined here: Day 1 / Class Check-in Mindfulness exercise Introduction to the Executive Function: task initiation (and procrastination) Demonstration of three task initiation strategies Movement and practice one of the strategies Break into teams to play a task initiation board game Day 2 Class Check-in Mindfulness exercise Review of what we learned the day before about task initiation (and procrastination) A brainstorm of the student's ideas to improve their task initiation Demonstration of a second task initiation skill Movement break to rev up our attention Hands-on activity making a "rewards bingo board:" Day 3 Class Check-in Mindfulness exercise Review of what we learned the day before about task initiation Demonstration of an anti-procrastination strategy Movement break to rev up our attention Work through the Escape room solving a procrastination problem scenario Day 4 Class Check-in Mindfulness exercise Review of what we learned the day before about planning and organization skills Survey students what they have learned and want to try out Movement break to rev up our attention Finish the Escape Room activity Celebrations Most activities are in the digital format, but the campers may need to print a worksheet ahead of class or need to use some basic supplies such as colored pencils/markers, scissors, and glue. A list will be sent to registrants prior to the start of camp. ADHD Coaching is not intended to be therapeutic or to replace professional support services. The ADHD coach's role is to facilitate self discovery and practrice of strategies that help one address executive function challenges as they relate to ADHD. The camper should be aware of what ADHD is and they have a diagnosis or are in process of having a professional evaluation regarding their challenges.
