Experiencia de clase

In this one-time class, students will test their adding and subtracting skills in a friendly game of Jeopardy. During class, I will share my screen with students, so that they can see the board and then split the class into 2 teams. The students will be asked to choose between 5 categories, each with 6 different questions to earn points for their team. Each question they get right, the points will be added to their score. Here is a breakdown of what to expect in this class; greetings, introduction into what we are going to be doing today, the rules of the game, splitting into 2 teams, picking and answering questions, and finally closing/good-bye.
I can't wait to see your child in my class!

Hello everyone!

My name is Destannee Vongsaphay, I'm 23 years old and I graduated from college back in August of 2020. I got my bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Texas Tech University. For those of you who don't know what that means, I got my degree in a sociology and psychology mix. I study human development across the life span, as well studying the dynamics of families!
I teach classes on creative writing and general writing, reading, basic math, anatomy and it's functions, and social classes (such as gaming classes or social clubs). Some classes I teach will be the functions of the specific body parts and their correct scientific names. I teach basic math, such as adding and subtracting, multiplication and division, and algebra one for older kids. I love watching kids feel accomplished after being able to solve a problem by themselves. It's the sense that they can do anything on their own and being able to know when to ask for help. I have always loved to read and write, in school I was always the one to write more than everyone else. It was my favorite pass time in middle school and high school. I love creative writing because it allows the imagination to flow and allows me to set the story. In college I learned how to write papers that were organized and with enough detail that doesn't sound like the paper drags on forever. It is short and sweet, straight to the point, but with enough details and evidence to back it up. I wrote a lot of research papers over the years, so I am able to show students how to find the best peer reviewed journals.
I have worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters (over a year between 2018-2019), with elementary school children. I have also tutored children in reading, math and science related course work over the duration of 4 years (2012-2016). I had classes in high school and college that allowed me hands-on experience working and teaching children of various age groups. Mostly preschool and elementary children.
The values behind my teaching are that I value developmental growth and personal growth above all else. I think it is important for children to grow developmentally both personally and socially to become productive members of society. It is important that children discover what works for them and is more beneficial for them, than for me to tell that this is the best way to go about doing homework or finding a solution. I believe that children best learn through their peers when they are able to have the freedom to talk it out amongst each other and come back to a group conversation to talk it out with me. In school I've learned that the more the student has a say in how we go about a class, the more engaged they are, they are more willing to participate in class, and it doesn't feel like just learning.
Something fun and personal about me is that I love psychology and different theories that come from great theorist, such as Sigmund Freud and Erik Erikson. Psychology has a special place in my heart because it can be used to explain human behaviors and the developmental stages we all take to get to where we are. My favorite animal is the elephant, I have so many stuffed animals, statues, and blankets. I love how majestic they look and how smart they are. Something really random about me is that I also love pineapples. I have a lot of cups, and figures and a sign that says "Welcome" on it with a pineapple background.
